Head coach Simon Jawichire said their sights are firmly set on securing a playoff slot as they push for a return to the Kenya Cup. “It has not been easy. We are taking one match at a time. It’s still a work in progress, with some aspects of our play not in complete sync. Our objective is the play-offs,” he said.
r. Former Kenya Cup side Kisii Rugby also maintained momentum, edging National Youth Service (NYS) Spades 6-3 in Nairobi to claim their second straight victory, having beaten Mwamba 21-19 in their opener.
“It was a tough and physical game. We defended most of the time,” said interim coach Nelvin Lumiti. “We are going to focus on attacking in our upcoming games and work on our physicality to match our body sizes.”
Elsewhere, coach Paul Murunga’s Mwamba returned to winning ways with a commanding 41-5 victory over Western Bulls, while Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology’s Cougars handed Homeboyz Rugby yet another defeat, edging the former Kenya Cup regulars 20-18 in a tight contest.
South Coast Pirates continued their impressive form, overpowering United States International University–Africa (USIU-A) Martials 37-7 at Seacrest School in Diani. USIU-A remains winless after three matches, but head coach Tom Lagat remains optimistic.
“With eight games to go, our preparations can get us somewhere. We just must let go of the past games and focus on the upcoming ones,” he said. In the varsity derby, the University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine defeated hosts Zetech University Oaks 30-12.
