KCB speedster Floyd Wabwire has been drafted into the Morans squad for the Zambezi Sevens, set for this weekend in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Wabwire, who featured for Shujaa at last month’s Safari Sevens and on the World Sevens Series last season, joins a squad that also includes Chrisant Ojwang', Gabriel Ayimba, and Dennis Abukuse, all of whom played at the Safari Sevens.

John Okoth will captain the side for the two-day tournament.

Head coach Kevin Wambua expressed confidence in the team’s readiness.

“We have assembled a quality squad with a blend of skill, energy, and hunger to compete. This is an important step for these players as we continue strengthening the pipeline for the national sevens programme” he said.

“We believe we are ready to represent the country with pride and deliver excellent performances. We are building from the Safari Sevens, and preparations have been good."

"Over the last two weeks, the focus has been on performance from the Safari Sevens and how we can build from it. The boys have responded well so far, and the objective is to give them confidence in their abilities, with some tactical and technical upskilling. This tournament is more about the team than individual players.”

The Morans have already proven their mettle against Zimbabwe, beating them twice at the 2025 Safari Sevens—a 27-7 win in the group stage and a 19-0 triumph in the third-place playoff.

Wambua highlighted the importance of exposure for his young squad as they aim for eventual inclusion in Shujaa.

“We need to see this team being challenged and facing some of the top teams in the world to ensure they can compete at the highest level,” he said.

The Morans have been drawn in Pool 'B', alongside Pitbulls and Old Hararians.

Squad: John Okoth (captain), Brian Mutua, Gabriel Ayimba, David Nyangige, Jackson Siketi, Clinton Amukwachi, Dennis Abukuse, Rayvone Amunga, Jackson Siketi, Daniel Kipchirchir, Victor Odhiambo, Chrisant Ojwang, and Floyd Wabwire.
