Moi University Arsonists, Ngong Warriors and Meru RFC have called for reforms, transparency, and accountability in the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) board.

Three clubs have given KRU CEO Thomas Odundo a Wednesday deadline to facilitate access to the requested financial records and provide a written response to each club no later than the said date.

The three clubs claim they wrote to KRU formally demanding an inspection of the KRU’s Books of Accounts, which is under clause 10.22.24 of the union’s constitution, which allows member clubs to request disclosure of the finances.

“This is not a rebellion. It is a rescue mission for the good of Kenyan Rugby. Should our demand be ignored, we shall reconvene to determine necessary further action,” Victor Wachira, spokesperson of Ngong Warriors said.

The three clubs warned that failure to comply would prompt them to reconvene and consider further action.

Beyond the financial discrepancies, the clubs decried a broader decline in leadership standards at the union.

"The past two years have witnessed boardroom wrangles, allegations of corruption, and deterioration in player welfare,” Wachira added.

“This is not politics; this is a principled stand for the integrity of the sport.”

Kenya Rugby Union chairperson Harriette Okach last month said that the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has begun to look into investigations of financial misconduct at the union.

Okatch says the agency has sought crucial documents to aid their investigations in addition to summoning KRU CEO, Thomas Odundo.

Kenya Cup club sides have also asked the board members mentioned adversely to step aside. In a meeting held over the weekend, the clubs have added that the stay of the directors implicated is untenable and will compromise the governance of the game.

Sources within the caucus have said a caretaker committee will be the ideal solution to end the wrangling.
