Former KCB utility back and Kenya Simbas international Darwin Mukidza has joined the bankers’ bench as the backs coach for the 2024-2025 Kenya Cup season.

The “Smiling Assassin” will take over from Mark Mshila, who left the club at the end of the season alongside long-serving coach Curtis Olago.

The Vihiga High School alumnus will hope to make a significant impact from the bench, just as he did during his playing career — where he was KCB’s top point-scorer for several seasons.

Head coach Oliver Mang’eni believes Mukidza will be an asset as the bankers try and wrestle the Kenya and Enterprise Cup crowns from rivals Kabras.

“He brings a wealth of talent and leadership to the technical bench and decision-making amongst our backs. He will be of value for us as we embark on the new season,” Mang’eni said.

Mang’eni hopes the changes effected on the bench, alongside the new additions to the playing unit will challenge the old established order in the squad.

“We have a couple of new faces in the squad and from pre-season training, competition for places is quite intense. I am confident we can win some silverware this time around,” added Mang’eni.

Mukidza has had a stellar career since making his debut for the Kenya Simbas in 2015 against Portugal. He won 47 caps over eight years.

He was capped 16 times by the national Sevens team, Shujaa.

He is the Simbas top point and try scorer (118 points).

In 2022, he helped the Simbas finish second at the Rugby Africa Cup.
