Champions Kabras, KCB and Menengai Oilers form the bulk of players called up for Kenya Simbas trials at the RFUEA grounds this weekend.

The sugarmillers dominate with 20 players followed by KCB (19), Oilers (13), Quins (7), Strathmore Leos (5), Mwamba (4), Nakuru (3) and two from Catholic Monks.

Simbas head coach Jerome Paarwater who has was reappointed Head coach for a second time will take charge of the selection process alongside his assistants, compatriot Carlos Katya of Kabras and KCB's Curtis Olago.

The trio has very little time to pick a 35-man squad for the Currie Cup slated for next month in South Africa with the Simbas expected to play their match on either April 1 or 8.

Notable players called up to the squad from champions Kabras include current Simbas internationals George Nyambua, Ephraim Oduor, Hillary Mwanjilwa, Hillary Odhiambo, Brian Juma, Teddy Akala and Eugene Sifuna in the forwards with Bryceson Adaka, Barry Robinson, Dan Angwech, David Bunduki, Walter Okoth and Kenya under 20 captain John Baraka.

KCB on their part have had the likes of Elvis Olukusi, Oscar Simiyu, Thomas Okidia, Wilfred Waswa, Steve Wamae among others.

Menengai Oliers, who reached the Kenya Cup semifinals, will be represented by Davis Nyaundi and Tony Oketch.

In total, 49 forwards and 36 backs have been called up to the squad for the two-day trials.

Team manager Jimmi Mnene said it promises to be a competitive two-day trial with foreign based players eand players coming off injury expected to be integrated to the team after the trials based on their schedule and form

Mnene said the 85 man squad will have twenty players each and will play each other in the two days before a final 35 man squad is selected next week.

Last year, the Simbas finished eighth on the log with 18 points, having won three of their nine matches.
