Six counties have called for the FINA Kenya stabilization Committee to work with speed on matters regarding elections.

The county chairman of Nairobi, Kajiado, Uasin Gishu, Machakos, Laikipia, and Kisumu said they are worried by the slow pace of the committee with regard to the polls.

Speaking Tuesday, Nairobi County Association chairman Teddy Wamuyu said with two and half months to the expiry of the deadline by the world governing body, World Aquatics, nothing seems to be moving.

“As the various county heads, we feel the pace is very slow. We are now in mid-March and very soon the month will be over. We are heading to April yet there seems to be no headway,” he added.

Wamuyu said the last stakeholders' briefing held last month at Moi Stadium, Kasarani did not yield any positive outcome.

"We had a meeting last month but nothing substantive came out of that meeting and it seems we are at a stalemate with regard to elections,” he added.

Wamuyu has also questioned the slow pace of the Sports Registrar in regard to the compliance of counties.

“ A couple of the counties have received acknowledgment letters but the certificates have not come out. So the registrar needs to work with speed,” he noted.

When contacted Fina Stabilisation Committee member, Francis Mutuku said they were awaiting alignment from the government, in particular, the Sports Registrar to give them the number of counties who have registered.

“Once we get the final number of counties that are registered and complaint, we will have a meeting to deliberate on the Constitution. We hope this will happen by end of this month,” added Mutuku

Mutuku said they hope to send out notices for the election after the constitutional meeting and expressed confidence that the elections will be done before the expiry of the mandate of the team in June.

"We still have adequate time before June to conduct the polls and the stakeholders should not be worried. The elections will be done in good time," observed Mutuku.
