Over 40 professional golfers will compete at this weekend's fourth leg of the PGK (Professional Golfers of Kenya) Equator Tour at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort in Naivasha.
The tournament has attracted players from across the region, all chasing ranking points in a bid to qualify for international championships and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Among those in the field are Daniel Nduva, David Wakhu, Njoroge Kibugu, Greg Snow and Mohit Mediratta.
The Equator Tour has served as a key platform for players to compete on different courses while earning world ranking points.
The first three legs were held at Ruiru Sports Club, Limuru Country Club and Mt. Kipipiri Golf & Resort. Snow won at Limuru and Mt. Kipipiri with scores of -12 and -16. Kibugu finished second in both events with scores of -10 and -12, while Mediratta (-8) and Abel Balala (-10) placed third at Limuru and Mt. Kipipiri, respectively.
At Ruiru, Nduva claimed the win with a score of -18, ahead of Wakhu (-16) and Kibugu (-15).
The Tour is supported by sponsors led by Safaricom, which has committed Sh3 million and is backing four players: Mutahi Kibugu, Mediratta, Samuel Njoroge and Matthew Wahome.
Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said the Tour continues to allow players to grow and compete at higher levels.
“Safaricom is proud to play a role in nurturing this talent and building a stronger future for the sport in Kenya,” Ndegwa said.
