The trio of Dismas Indiza, Samuel Njoroge and Daniel Nduva are ready to make history when the Magical Kenya Open, a leg of DP World Tour, tees off at Muthaiga Golf Club on Thursday.

They had an early morning practice session at Muthaiga on Tuesday as Kenya Breweries Limited announced a Sh34m sponsorship for the four-day contest.

Njoroge, who is prepping for a fourth Kenya Open appearance as a pro and a fifth on the European Tour, hopes to make the cut this time around.

“I hope to play better as I have never made the cut here at Muthaiga. I am well prepared and looking forward to a great week of golf.

We have had time to practice here a lot more. My swing is closer to where I want it to be though I hope to improve on my putting, which has not been up to scratch,” said Njoroge.

They expect the support of an estimated 15,000 home fans to push them to their dream of a strong finish at Muthaiga. They also believe their knowledge of the course will come in handy.

Nduva is hopeful of a top-20 finish, but not until he makes it to the money bracket (cut) going into the weekend.

“I want to make the cut first, which is the hardest part. I can then think of going for a top 20 slot in the last two days of the competition. I am glad that KBL is coming in handy to help us cater to our expenses. It’s always a great pleasure playing in a tournament with a rich history like the MKO,” said Nduva, who turned pro in 2021.

He’ll be tackling his third Kenya Open and first as a pro, having played in the 2014 and 2019 editions as an amateur.

Indiza — who will be turning 56 in December — is the oldest member of the Kenyan team. Like Nduva and Njoroge, he will seek to keep his cool on the opening two days to survive the axe.

“The support we receive from the home fans is amazing and I’m looking forward to playing in that sort of atmosphere again,” said Indiza, the Order of Merit winner in Safari Tour’s Road To Kenya Open.

Indiza is enjoying good form. He made history by winning the Uganda Open for a record seventh time and hopes to replicate his hitting antics at Muthaiga.
