Karen Country Club’s Peter Wambugu was June 1 crowned Division 'A' winner during the Club’s Madaraka day golf tournament after he carded a round of 40 points to claim the day’s bragging rights after count-back.
He finished above fellow clubmate, David Nduati, who was the division’s runner-up with an equally impressive 40-point tally.
In the nines challenge of the division, Ken Ombati took top honours in the first nine with 22 points after countback while Rose Mambo was crowned second nine winner after she carded 24 points.
In the Division 'B' category, Moses Alobo emerged triumphant with a commendable tally of 40 points. He finished ahead of Anne Mahinda whose effort saw her finish runner-up with a solitary point difference.
In the nines, Aaron Gitonga and Rosemary Maitha carded 21 points apiece to claim top honours in the first and second nine respectively.
Among the juniors, Njukia Kihara showcased remarkable talent, capturing the top position in the category having carded 37 points, while Richard Stonewigg emerged as the overall gross winner of the tournament with 78 gross.
The event, which attracted a field of over 243 golfers, was sponsored by leading events and public relations company, IMG Kenya Limited.
Wambugu said: "It is an incredible honour to be crowned the top golfer on this special Madaraka Day. The competition was fierce. The course, as always was in very good condition and we all enjoyed playing on it".
