Kibera Black Stars head coach Iddi Badi is confident he will guide the outfit to the SportPesa League next season.

The club is one of the longest-serving in the National Super League, and Badi is eager to break the jinx and lead it to the top-tier league.

Speaking after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Gucha Stars in an NSL game played at Gusii Stadium, Badi said the rough patch, which saw them lose five consecutive games, is now over.

“This is our second consecutive win after ending the five-game losing streak. It’s a sigh of relief for us. It's been tough, but it’s over now. The win against Gucha is very important, and we want to build on the momentum in our upcoming games,” said the tactician.

Reflecting on their win against Gucha, he said: “Our plan against Gucha was to score early and hold on. Gucha is a good and physical side.”

During the game, Joseph Lungwe scored the all-important goal for the Rubis Energy-sponsored side.

Gucha Stars’ leading scorer Vincent Nyabuto blamed the loss on their failure to convert their chances.

“Luck was not on our side today. We hit the post and had the ball cleared off the line twice. It’s part of the game, and we now shift gears to our next game against Naivas on Wednesday. We need to bounce back to winning ways,” said Nyabuto.

Nyabuto has so far scored eight goals from 10 games said he will be glad to finish the league as a top scorer.

“My target is not to be a top scorer but to help the team finish in a good position. The top scorer’s award will be an added advantage to me,” said the former Shabana FC striker.

Elsewhere, the Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) failed to close the gap on runaway leaders, Migori Youth. MOFA were held to a barren draw by hosts Talanta FC.

3K FC moved to second after a 4-2 win over former FKF Premier League side Vihiga United at Moi Stadium in Embu in a six-goal thriller. MOFA dropped to third on the table. Migori Youth leads the log with 29 points, followed in second place by 3K FC with 24, while MOFA is third with 23 points and Mombasa United fourth with 22 points.

Mombasa United’s poor away record continued on Friday when they succumbed to a 3-2 loss against Migori Youth.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Luanda Villa continued with their impressive run when they beat hosts Darajani Gogo 1-0.
