Shabana FC head coach Peter Okidi insists the Glamour Boys remain firmly in the SportPesa Premier League title race after ending their three-match losing streak with a 1–0 win over Bidco United at Gusii Stadium.

Captain Mark Okolla delivered the decisive moment, converting a second-half penalty in a cagey encounter to hand Shabana a much-needed victory. “We started well, but our campaign was affected by injuries. We lost several key players,” Okidi said. “However, we have now got our campaign back on track.”

Shabana are unbeaten in their last five matches—winning three and drawing two. The Kisii-based side has collected 18 points from five wins and three draws, with three defeats. Their next test comes next Saturday against third-placed Kakamega Homeboyz.

Reflecting on the win, Okidi praised his defence and goalkeeper Stephen Ochieng for delivering back-to-back clean sheets. “This is the second game where we have avoided injuries and kept a clean sheet. Our biggest undoing has been conceding goals, but today the goalkeeper and defence did a good job,” he said. Okidi warned that they will need to elevate their performance against their upcoming opponents. “Homeboyz is a good side with an experienced coach. They are up there on the log, so we expect a tough encounter,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Bidco United head coach Anthony Akhulia reiterated that his team will not endure another relegation battle. “Last season, we survived relegation by a whisker.

This time, it will not be like that. We are aiming for a top-10 finish,” he said. Despite recent struggles, Akhulia expressed satisfaction with his squad.

“We recruited heavily from the lower leagues. Most of our players have never played in the top tier, but they have performed beyond expectations,” he said. Akhulia also urged the Football Kenya Federation to assess the performance of match officials, questioning the penalty decision that handed Shabana the win.
