The pledge was announced following a courtesy visit by the club’s management team—led by chairman Ambrose Rachier and deputy Sally Bolo—to the former prime minister and his wife, Mama Ida Odinga, at their Karen residence on Friday.
In a statement, the club described the donation as a “monumental gift” and a reflection of Odinga’s “unwavering commitment” to Gor Mahia.
“We are deeply grateful to our patron and his family,” the club posted on social media.
Odinga, a longtime supporter of the club, also extended his well-wishes ahead of the new campaign. “As the new football season kicks off, I had the pleasure of being briefed by Gor Mahia Football Club’s executive team, led by chairman Ambrose Rachier, on the club’s campaign plans for the season. Wishing K’Ogalo all the very best as they fly the Green flag higher and strive to return as champions once again,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The donation comes just a day after Cabinet Secretary for Youth, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, surprised the team with a cash token of Sh300,000 during a visit to their training session at Nyayo Stadium. Addressing players and technical staff, the minister expressed support for the club’s ambitions.
For a team that has frequently struggled with off-field financial stability, the twin gestures mark an encouraging start to the new season. The funds are expected to ease the club’s planning and administrative demands as they aim to reclaim the Kenyan Premier League title.
Gor Mahia were dethroned last season by Kenya Police FC, finishing runners-up and ending their campaign without silverware. The 2025/26 season has so far produced mixed results for the club. After opening with a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Bidco United, K’Ogalo bounced back with a 2-0 win over Sofapaka.
Their next fixture is set for Sunday, October 5, when they take on KCB at Dandora Stadium. The match offers a chance to register back-to-back victories and build early momentum in what is shaping up to be a fiercely competitive league season.
With Odinga’s financial support and renewed interest from government officials, Gor Mahia will hope that greater stability off the pitch translates into consistent success on it.
