The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe,
will chair a high-level Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting in Nairobi this
Saturday, August 30.
The meeting is expected to finalize key
decisions on the future of African football, including youth growth and
football development.
Also on the agenda will be deliberations on the success of the ongoing CHAN
tournament and the role of the East African nations — Kenya, Uganda, and
Tanzania.
Long-term strategies to accelerate the growth of
football across the continent, with special attention to the development of
women’s football, will also be discussed.
The visit is a significant boost for Kenya,
which is co-hosting the CHAN 2024 tournament, with the finals between Morocco
and Madagascar taking place at Kasarani Stadium later in the evening at 6:00
p.m.
The meeting also reinforces Nairobi’s growing
profile as a centre for continental sporting events, coming just two years
before the region stages Africa’s premier competition, AFCON 2027.
The EXCO meeting at Kempinski, Nairobi, will
take place at 10:00 a.m., with CAF chief Dr. Motsepe set to address a press
conference at 12:00 p.m. Motsepe is expected to set the tone for CAF’s next
phase of football development initiatives in East Africa and beyond.
Meanwhile, the inaugural CAF Impact Programme
Strategic Roundtable Workshop is ongoing in Kampala, Uganda.
The five-day initiative, which kicked off on Sunday, August 24, 2025, is
aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability in the use of CAF
development funds.
For the first time, CAF has brought together
all 54 presidents of member associations to a practical workshop aimed at
strengthening financial governance and promoting youth competitions.
The workshop is also focused on supporting member
associations and ensuring the sustainable growth and global competitiveness of
African football.
Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania have successfully co-hosted the CHAN tournament for the first time in the history of the competition under the East Africa “PAMOJA” umbrella.
