Harambee Stars skipper Abud Omar believes the privilege of hosting the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August could prove a decisive advantage for Kenya despite little experience at the continental level.

“We are not experienced in this tournament, but hosting it here gives us the drive to go for the win,” Omar said. ‎ ‎The left-back exuded confidence in the squad’s preparedness, hailing the blend of youth and experience as a potent formula for success. ‎ ‎“The mood in the camp is good, and most players called are regulars at their teams. I think this is a strong team. We are preparing well and working hard ahead of the tourney.

The squad is balanced between youth and experienced players, and that is another advantage,” the skipper added. ‎‎The Kenya Police defender rallied the fans to turn up in large numbers to support the team when the tournament kicks off. ‎ ‎“Our fans should come out in large numbers and support us. The tournament is on home soil, and having the fans present will help us achieve good results. We want you guys to believe in us.” ‎

‎Despite being drawn in a challenging group, Omar insists belief in the camp remains unshaken. ‎ ‎“The group has tough fixtures, but we will give our best in the field because we believe in ourselves." ‎ ‎

Kenyans are drawn in Group A alongside Angola, DR Congo, Morocco and Zambia.  ‎Omar's sentiments were echoed by fellow Police FC defender Daniel Sakari, who underlined the team’s determination to go all the way. ‎ ‎“We are playing at home, and the ultimate prize is to bring the cup home. We must play the final at our home. We have a huge task ahead of us, and it’s our mandate to achieve the ultimate goal,” Sakari said.  He admitted that it was a big honour for him to get a call-up to the national team. ‎ ‎“It’s a good opportunity to play for the national team, but you have to earn it,” he added.
