Kenyan football fans will now have free access to some of Europe’s top football leagues following a partnership between TV47 and Dubai-based broadcaster SportyTV.

The deal will allow matches from the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and Bundesliga to be aired on free-to-air television during the 2025/26 season.

The partnership is expected to benefit millions of Kenyans who do not subscribe to pay-TV platforms, making high-profile football more accessible to the general public.

A 2023 report by the Communications Authority indicated that only about 15 percent of Kenyan households have access to pay-TV, leaving the majority reliant on free-to-air channels.

Until now, most international football content has been locked behind subscription services, pricing out a large section of sports fans.

The agreement between TV47 and SportyTV marks a shift in the media landscape by opening up premium sports content to a wider audience.

SportyTV has previously partnered with broadcasters in other African countries and is known for expanding access to high-value sports programming through free-to-air deals. Their entry into the Kenyan market reflects a growing trend of targeting underserved viewers with cost-free sports content.

TV47, which recently acquired rights to broadcast the Kenyan Premier League and the FIFA Club World Cup, continues to expand its sports portfolio through such collaborations. The station is available on major platforms including SIGNET, PANG, ZUKU, GoTV, DSTV, and StarTimes.

With this move, Kenyan viewers will be able to follow top European football, a development likely to reshape viewership patterns and competition in sports broadcasting.
