Ongicha lifted the Kitutu Central Sub-county title after edging Kanyimbo Secondary 8-0 In a repeat final at Cardinal Otunga High School, Mosocho.
Kanyimbo had beaten Kanunda 5-4 on penalties in the final. However, Ong’icha appealed their semi-final loss against Kanunda and won the case, forcing Ministry of Education officials to order a fresh final.
Kanyimbo, however, played the second final under protest, according to the sub-county KSSSA secretary Emmanuel Atinda. Speaking after the final, Ong’icha coach Dalton Ochieng said they have now set their sights on the county title during the championships to be held at Nyachogochogo Secondary next week.
“Last year, we lost in the finals against Sameta, but I believe we have what it takes to be the county champions. We played at the regionals last year, and we want to qualify again. Our target is to play at nationals,” said the youthful coach. The games will end on Friday.
