Kenya Police FC head coach Etienne Ndayiragije has said they are not ready to surrender the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup title after clinching it for the first time last year.
The Nairobi-based law enforcers find themselves on the precipice of a historic achievement, with the possibility of securing both the FKF Cup and their inaugural Kenyan Premier League title looming large.
The star-studded squad have been on a roll this season with a dominant and elegant display of grit that propelled them to the apex of the log, and are just a heartbeat away from laying claim to their maiden top-flight silverware.
In an interview on Tuesday, Ndayiragije said they will fight tooth and nail to garnish their trophy cabinet with two major titles.
Ndayiragije said this dual pursuit represents the culmination of tireless effort, strategic planning, and an unwavering spirit that has characterised the team’s journey thus far.
"This will be a dream-come-true for us. We have put in a lot of effort in the season and the best reward would be to clinch the two trophies," he said.
"This would be the best gift for us, for our fans and everyone who has supported us throughout the season," he said.
But even as the organisers set up the stage for a titanic semifinal clash between Gor Mahia and Murang'a Seal on Sunday, Ndayiragije and his charges will have to wait a little bit longer to confirm their opponents in the quarterfinals.
They will face the winner between Mara Sugar and Compel FC, who face each other in the Round of 16. The clash was delayed after AFC Leopards appealed to FKF.
Meanwhile, Mara Sugar head coach Edward Manoah expects a vicious clash against Compel at Awendo Green Stadium this afternoon.
"This is a tough side that are asserting authority in the tournament for the second consecutive season. We are aware of the threat they pose and we have prepared well to face them," Manoah said.
"We have experienced a rough ride in the KPL and we are glad this tournament offers us a glimmer of hope," he said.
The delay has only heightened the sense of suspense that permeates the tournament.
The FKF Cup represents an opportunity and a lifeline for Mara to redeem themselves after a challenging run in the league.
