Kenya Police FC placed one hand on the FKF Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Talanta FC at Machakos Stadium on Sunday, 18 May 2025.

David Simiyu scored the all-important goal in the 15th minute as the law enforcers moved six points clear with two matches left.

Their closest title rivals, Tusker FC, suffered a shocking 7-1 hammering in the hands of Sofapaka to complicate their title chances.

Meanwhile, defending champions Gor Mahia were held to a 0-0 draw by Muranga Seals at Sportpesa Arena to stay seven points behind Police, with a game in hand.

Police just need one win from their remaining two matches against Shabana FC and Gor Mahia, to secure the championship.

Gor, on the other hand, must win all their three remaining fixtures against Ulinzi Stars, AFC Leopards, and Kenya Police to retain their title.

Tusker FC have very slim chances and must beat both Kariobangi Sharks and Kakamega Homeboyz, and hope Police lose all their matches and overturn a massive goal difference by scoring at least 15 goals.

The twists in the 2024/2025 season may see the league get decided on a photo finish on the final day with the winner between Police and Gor Mahia grabbing the title.

Police FC head coach Etienne Ndayiragije believes they have the title in their hands and just need to take one game at a time to cross the finish line.

“We have to continue with the same sprit and collect six points from the next two games. We know it is not going to be easy, but we have a game plan for every game.” Said the Burundian.

On the other hand, KO’gallo captain Philemon Otieno said they are still in the title race and will fight to the final whistle.

“No one has yet been declared champions, and we have to keep fighting to the last day. However, we expect tough matches and we have to battle the remaining games like they are all finals.” Otieno said.

The KPL title has exchanged hands between Gor Mahia and Tusker for the last 13 years save for 2021/2022 season when the league was declared null and void, due to fifa sanctions on Football Kenya Federation.

Kogallo have won the title nine times, while Tusker have managed three since Ulinzi stars won title in 2010.
