Murang’a Seal head coach Yusuf Chipo has called on his side to swiftly shake off the sting of Saturday’s defeat to Tusker and turn their full attention to Wednesday’s midweek encounter against Sofapaka.
The Murang'a-based outfit was on Saturday beaten 2-0 by title-chasing Tusker at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Clinical finishes from Deogratious Ojok and Eric Balecho sealed all three points for the brewers.
Seal had a golden chance to claw their way back into the contest in the second half, but forward Joe Waithira skied a spot-kick to summarise a frustrating outing for the relegation-threatened side.
Murang’a Seal are 16th on the Premier League table with 29 points, just two clear of bottom-placed Nairobi City Stars.
Bidco United, though tied on points, edge Seal on goal difference to sit just above the drop zone.
With only four games left to play, the pressure is mounting.
Chipo, however, remains bullish about his team’s chances of clawing their way to safety, starting with a vital clash against a stuttering Sofapaka side.
"We went back to the drawing board and fixed the areas of weakness we saw during the game against Tusker," Chipo said.
The tactician believes home advantage could be the difference as they seek a much-needed lift in front of their fans.
"Having the home advantage will give us a better edge in the game against Sofapaka," he added.
Before the Tusker setback, Seal had stitched together their first wins of 2025—edging Ulinzi Stars 3-2 in a hard-fought FKF Cup quarter-final before snatching a narrow 1-0 league victory over City Stars.
Chipo is banking on that recent form and thorough preparation to guide his side clear of the drop.
"I believe if we prepare well, we will secure our status in the top-flight league," he said.
He called on the fans to continue rallying behind the team.
"The fans should continue showing their support and coming out in large numbers in our next matches," he said.
Sofapaka arrive at St. Sebastian Park sitting eighth on the log with 40 points but are winless in their last four matches.
Batoto ba Mungu’s last league triumph came on April 4, where they secured a gritty 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars.
Since then, they have settled for a string of draws, 1-1 against Gor Mahia, 0-0 with Kakamega Homeboyz, 1-1 versus Mathare United and most recently, a goalless stalemate against Kariobangi Sharks.
Murang’a Seal will take heart from their first-leg encounter, where a 60th-minute penalty from Jackson Irungu secured all the points.
