Harambee Stars interim coach Francis Kimanzi is bullish as his side prepare to face hosts Zanzibar Heroes in their third Mapinduzi Cup clash at 8 pm tonight.

Stars top the standings with four points, level with Burkina Faso but edging ahead on goal difference. Hosts Zanzibar trail with three points, while pointless Tanzania are bottom.

Kenya kicked off their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso before going on to secure a 2-0 victory against Tanzania. Kimanzi is confident his side can maintain their upward trajectory against a spirited Zanzibar side.

“What matters most is that we execute what we’ve been working on throughout this tournament,” Kimanzi said. However, the tactician acknowledged the challenge of facing the hosts.

“We respect Zanzibar, especially since they have home support. That makes this match even tougher,” he added.

He emphasised the importance of adapting tactically to counter Zanzibar’s strengths.

“We will adjust strategically and show our commitment to this tournament. We aim to display top character because every game carries significant value for us,” he stated.

“We have been putting in the work with each game and the team is getting stronger with every match. We are satisfied with the behaviour and character of the boys and how they are responding to every match.”

Despite leading the standings, Kimanzi stressed that his focus is solely on delivering a win and progressing to the final.

“We are not looking at the table. Our goal is to play well, win and secure our place in the final,” he asserted.

Defender Daniel Sakari echoed his coach’s sentiments, noting the importance of maintaining their winning curve as they build towards next month’s African Nations Championship (CHAN).

“Our performance is improving — from the draw to the win — and we’re determined to keep that curve rising. This tournament is vital preparation for CHAN,” Sakari explained.

“Morale is high, and every player is giving their all to ensure we get to the final and eventually lift the trophy.”
