Sameta High’s boys’ football team will represent Kisii County at the Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Term Two games after an appeal against their win was dismissed on Friday.

A jury sitting in the Kisii County Director of Education office dismissed an appeal filed by Ong’icha Secondary School after they lost 4-0 in the county final two weeks ago at Nduru Boys.

Sameta and Ong’icha will represent the county in the Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Term Two Games to be held in Kisi County.

On Friday, Kenya Secondary Sports Association (KSSSA) Kisii County secretary Geoffrey Nyantika said the jury dismissed the appeal after thorough investigations.

“The appeal was dismissed after investigations by the Ministry of Education officials who visited the school and clarified that the player in question was a genuine student.”

Sameta are in Pool ‘B’ alongside Ambira  (Siaya), Matutu PAG (Nyamira), and Homa Bay’s Tonga High while Ong’icha are in Pool ‘A’ dubbed the ‘Group of Death’ alongside defending champions Agoro Sare, former champions Kisumu Day and Kodero Bara.

Sameta open their campaign against Matutu PAG on Wednesday next week at Kisii School while Ong’icha will make their debut against Koderobara on Thursday at the same venue.

On Friday, Sameta High School coach Samuel Matara said they are looking forward to the competition.  “We are in a relatively fair group but we shall not underrate any team. We want to represent and make Kisii county proud,” said Matara.

They are keen to restore Kisii’s lost glory. Previous schools that lifted the regional and national titles were Itierio Boys, St Marks Mokorogoinwa and Kisii School.
