Atletico Madrid’s French international Antoine Griezmann said his participation in the Paris Olympic Games will be decided in the coming days.

While he expresses a strong desire to represent his country in Paris, he also aims to avoid any conflict with his club.

France Olympic team coach Thierry Henry will announce a preliminary list for the Games on June 3 and 33-year-old Griezmann admits that competing in Paris would be “a dream.”

However, Griezmann explained, “It is the club (Atletico Madrid) that decides, and at the moment, they are not very willing for me to go.”

“It will be decided shortly. I can’t do anything else; I just don’t want it to be a problem for my future at Atletico,” he elaborated during a press conference.

Griezmann has already been named to the France squad for the European Championships, which will be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14.

The Olympics start just over a week later and continue until just a week before the 2024-25 La Liga season begins in Spain. If he participates in the Games, it would mean him possibly competing in two major tournaments in a row and missing the preparation period with the club before the new season.

The striker reiterated his loyalty to Atletico and stated that he had turned down offers to move elsewhere this summer.

“Atletico is where I want to be and where I want to end my career in Europe,” he insisted.
