Kibera Soccer Ladies coach David Vijago believes three points against Zetech Sparks this weekend will help his side in their quest for a top-three finish in the Women’s Premier League.

Kibera are fourth on the standings with 27 points, five behind Ulinzi Starlets at third with both teams having played 16 matches.

“The season has been tough but I’m grateful we have narrowed the gap in our hunt for a strong finish. Earlier on in the season, we aimed for the top four but we have adjusted our target,” Vijago said.

Saturday’s clash will be a repeat of last weekend’s FKF Cup duel at Dandora Stadium, which Kibera won 2-1.

“We have to be cautious heading into this match. It is not easy to defeat a team twice, especially in back-to-back encounters. We have to be better,” said Vijago.

After Sparks, Kibera will close the season with matches against Bunyore and Madira Soccer Assasins.

Kenya Police Bullets still top the WPL standings with 43 points from 17 matches, having won 13 and drawn four. Vihiga Queens are second with 37 points from 11 victories, four draws and a loss.

Vijago, popularly known as ‘Rama’ credited tactical adjustments and the unwavering support of the Kibera community to their Cup success.

“This is about Kibera as a community. We aimed to reach the final and win it,” said Vijago.

“Regarding injuries, we only have Maria Ambila on the recovery path. She has been out for about a month now. We hope she joins us for the final two games of the season.”
