Kenya Football Referee’s Association chairman Richard Obare wants delegates to ‘get it right’ during the upcoming national elections to help restore confidence in the country’s leagues.

Obare said referees have gone without pay for months, which erodes the integrity of the competition.

“We want good leadership and good governance. What we have is a total mess. Top leagues in the country are being officiated by unpaid referees,” Obare alleged.

“How can you run a top league in the country without paying referees for seven months?

Only a free and fair election can ensure the credibility of the people in charge of the game.

Speaking at the same football stakeholders forum in a Nairobi hotel over the weekend, NEC member aspirant, Charity Wang’oma, said the best way to run the polls is by engaging the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

“We want IEBC, an independent body, to oversee the elections. We cannot trust an FKF electoral board,” she said.
