Mwanza keen to close gap on Vihiga Queens

Ulinzi Starlets head coach Joseph Mwanza is keen on narrowing the gap between his team and Vihiga Queens by the end of the first leg of the Women’s Premier League.

Speaking after beating Gaspo Women 1-0 at Stima Club on Sunday, Mwanza said: “The win against Gaspo has put us close to Vihiga — our main competitors.”

Ulinzi are second, five points adrift of Queens, after winning three, drawing two, and losing one in the six matches played so far.

“Vihiga are on a very good run, and we are expecting that by the end of the first leg. The gap between us is not so big,” said Mwanza. He commended his team’s improved focus. He also expressed hope for a boost in the league with the return of players, including Phasila Adhiambo, currently away on National team duty with Rising Starlets.

Acknowledging the league’s competitiveness, Mwanza praised newly promoted teams, Madira Soccer Assassins, Bungoma Queens, and Kibera Soccer Ladies.

“The newly promoted sides have also brought so much to this season. They are doing a good job,” he said.
