Strathmore University Swords coach Ronny Owino

Strathmore University Swords coach Ronny Owino says he is ready for their opening Kenya National Basketball League tie against Eldonets on Saturday.

The veteran tactician exuded confidence yesterday, saying they have not had proper training since they returned but the girls are raring to go. The match starts at 9 am

“We are ready. We have been training and we will see how this opening match goes,” said Owino adding, “We want to improve on our last position.”

Swords were last year placed fourth in their best season ever and Owino believes they can match that or even do better if they train well.

Storms will start off their program at 2 pm with a match against  Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Panthers, whose coach Mike Oluoch said his players were reporting back for college this week.

There are only four premier league matches this weekend that will also see Strathmore take on Scarlet on Sunday.

Strathmore University Team Two will set the ball rolling when they start off their season with a match against Kenya Collège of Accountancy (KCA) at 9 a.m.

Strathmore University Blades were first off the blocks as they took on former national champions Ulinzi Warriors in the top tie last evening.

Kakamega-based Nebulus will make the short journey to Kisumu to take on the newly promoted Urbanville at their Kenyatta Sports Ground base.

In Mombasa, there is a local derby pitting Congo Nets  against Brooklyn Boys in what should be a tight contest

The women's match in Kisumu will see relegated Lady Bucks start their journey back to the top when they host Swift. National school champions Butere Girls welcome home another relegated side in Western Delight.
