Mercurial Harambee Stars and Tusker FC defender Daniel Sakari is among the creme de la creme of the Kenyan Premier League being targeted by FKF Cup champions Kakamega Homeboyz.

This is in a frantic bid to boost their Caf Confederation Cup aspirations after they cracked the FKF Cup title on Saturday.

A source at the club said they are keen to boost their ranks as they firmly train their eyes on their grand entry to the second-biggest continental showpiece.

"Indeed, Sakari is a brilliant defender, who has the capacity to run the channels and deliver crosses into the area. He fits well with our style of play and we would want him in the team," the source said.

"We also require players with international exposure and he already has that quality," the source said.

Homeboyz fended off a vicious challenge from Tusker at Moi Stadium, Kasarani on Saturday to win the title that secured them a slot in next season's Caf Confederations Cup.

Head coach Patrick Odhiambo said he is aware some of his charges have already attracted attention from rival clubs in the top tier league, but hoped they would see the need to stay on.

"That's a challenge we knew we would face but we have already put effective measures in place to address the problem. I believe after fighting hard to win the trophy and book a place in the Caf Confederation Cup, the players would prefer to play and enjoy the fruits of their success," Odhiambo remarked.

A jubilant Kakamega Homeboyz honcho Cleophas Shimanyula lavished adulation on his players for winning the FKF Cup title.

Shimanyula, who witnessed the historic win from the stands, said he was impressed by the valiant fight the players put up in the rivetting action-packed thriller.

"Nothing could have made us happier than this win. The slim scoreline attests to how tough the match was and the boys deserve every ounce of praise," Shimanyula said.

"Our success didn't come from the blues. We knew what we wanted to achieve right from the start of the season and we set out to meet our objectives," he added.

Shimanyula revealed lofty plans for the newly crowned champions who will be daring the continent for the first time. He said part of their plan was to plunge vast resources into the forthcoming transfer market to secure the best signatures they can land.

"We have a competitive squad that can cause a tremor in the continent. We are planning to beef our ranks a little bit to give us the edge we require to thrive on the international stage," Shimanyula said.

"We are aware of how competitive the continental stage is but we are ready to make a grand entry next season. We'll do all we can to make the nation proud and prove to the world that we didn't bag this title by fluke," Shimanyula said.
