Nairobi City Stars midfielders Vincent Owino and Mohammed Bajaber have expressed their excitement after scoring their debut goals in the Kenyan Premier League.
The duo was on target as City Stars beat hosts Wazito 2-1 at Muhoroni Stadium on Thursday.
Owino, in his first start for Simba wa Nairobi, and just his second game since crossing over from Talanta, rammed home a poorly-cleared floater from Dennis Wanjala past the Wazito keeper for the opener inside the first five minutes of the second half.
Bajaber’s goal, scored on the day he turned 20, came at the death when he towered over a defender to power in a header to finish off Newton Tony Ochieng’s cross from the right. Kelly Wesonga scored for Wazito.
“I’m glad to have scored my first goal in the Kenyan topflight,” said Bajaber, adding: "But I am even happier to have helped the team get maximum points in what was a vital win for our season.”
He added: “It excites me to open my account at City Stars even before I fully settle into the team. I am particularly happy that the team went on to win. I believe that the first goal is a sign of many more to come.”
Owino joined Simba wa Nairobi alongside striker Dennis Oalo. Head coach Nicholas Muyoti said: “Oalo is here to boost our forward line while Owino comes in to solidify our midfield as well as give a punch to the forwards as he is known to make forays up to join the attack. We believe that with their addition we will improve our final third that lacked sharpness in the first leg.”
