FIFA World Cup trophy lands in Kenya

The most coveted trophy in World football touched down on Kenyan soil at 12:20.

The FIFA World Cup trophy on Thursday landed on Kenyan soil.

The most coveted trophy in World football touched down at 12:20 alongside Brazilian football star Julian Belletti.

It was received by Cabinet Secretaries for Sports Amina Mohamed, Trade’s Betty Maina and Najib Balala of Tourism.

Also present were Nairobi Governor Anne Kananu and the top brass officials of Coca Cola.

Coca-Cola vice president, East and Central African franchise,  Debrah Mallowah said they were happy to receive the trophy.

"As a country, we are delighted to receive the original trophy and am asking the fans to turn up in large numbers for the public viewing and take pictures," said Mallowah

This is the third time the FIFA World cup trophy is in the country.

Its maiden appearance was in 2010 when the late President Mwai Kibaki received it.

President Uhuru Kenyatta received it in 2013, the second time it was in Kenya.

From the Airport, the trophy headed to the State House where President Uhuru is expected to receive it.

The head of state is the only allowed to touch the trophy.

Football fans will have an opportunity to see the trophy at the Kenyatta International Conference Center on Friday.

The trophy will then head to South Africa before going to Tanzania next week.
