ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi’s campaign secretariat has denied reports that Luhyas in Kenya Kwanza have negotiated for a 30 per cent stake of government if the outfit wins in August.
Head of secretariat Prof Amukowa Anangwe on Monday dismissed as speculation and wishful thinking reports attributed to Kakamega governor aspirant Cleophas Malala.
Malala said Mudavadi and Ford Kenya boss Moses Wetang’ula have negotiated for seven Cabinet secretaries, 16 principal secretaries and 126 chairmen posts for statutory boards.
Malala, who spoke in Kakamega town on Thursday, also claimed that ANC and Ford Kenya have negotiated for 30 per cent development projects and revival of the ailing sugar industry.
But Anangwe said negotiations have just started and UDA, ANC and Ford Kenya parties have their own versions.
“From where I sit, we are yet to strike a deal on the power-sharing matrix in Kenya Kwanza. There is nothing of that nature that has been agreed upon or even signed,” he told the Star on the phone.
Anangwe said teams from the three parties will sit and bargain on a win-win approach and reach an understanding in the interests of all Kenyans.
“I can assure our supporters that it will be a hard bargain from our side in the interest of the community, especially in Luhyaland,” he said.
Anangwe declined to disclose what demands ANC and Ford Kenya have put on the table saying, “It may end up empowering other people to compromise us”.
“I am aware of what is happening and in all probability, it will be the best deal the community cannot get from Azimio la Umoja,” he added.
Anangwe said Luhyas stand to benefit more in Kenya Kwanza than in Azimio.
He said there is no Luhya on the negotiating table in Azimio as opposed to Kenya Kwanza where Luhyas are on the table sharing spoils directly and not through proxies.
“We can speculate what’s happening in Azimio because there is ODM, Jubilee and Wiper parties and when it comes to sharing the government it will be among the three parties and in ODM Luhyas are an add junk,” Anangwe said.
He said it will be upon ODM leader Raila Odinga to get his share of government then see what to give Luhyas because they are not on the negotiating table.
Anangwe said the horse-trading witnessed between Kakamega governor aspirants Boni Khalwale and Malala will be witnessed in parties within coalitions to avoid dividing their support bases.
