John Waw has confirmed his departure from Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka, where he served as a goalkeeper trainer for close to two seasons.
Waw attributed his decision to a burning desire to test new waters.
"When my contract expired on October 23, I turned down an offer from the club's management to renew it. I think it's a high time now I thought of taking up a new challenge," said Waw.
Waw, who once plied trade for former Kenyan Premier League sides Sony Sugar and Chemelil Sugar as well as Mathare United and Kakamega Homeboyz, said he was now open to new offers.
"At the moment, I am attached to Zetech University where I train both Zetech Titans and Zetech Sparks who participate in the Kenya's Women Premier League," said Waw.
Waw dismissed rumours claiming he had already penned a deal with an overseas outfit.
"I'm yet to think along those lines. I'm fully focused on guiding teams in the local competition but then, I wouldn't hesitate to accept such an offer if I happen to bump into one," he said.
Sources at Sofapaka said the club had already embarked on a recruitment process with former Harambee Stars goalkeeping coach Sunil Shah topping the list of individuals likely to land the role.
Waw's departure comes at a time the future of mercurial midfielder Lawrence Juma seems unclear at the club.
Juma, who is understandably currently training on his own, has issued Sofapaka with a notice to clear all his pending dues failure to which he will bolt out.
"Currently I train all by myself as I continue to weigh my options," he stated.
Juma revealed that there were a dozen offers already dangled to him but declined to divulge details.
"Several teams including those outside the country have already expressed interest in my signature and I will let you in on my next move once I'm done with Sofapaka," said Juma.
The 2020/2021 KPL midfielder of the year was on target as Sofapaka opened their new season account with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Nairobi City Stars at Wundanyi Stadium.
However, he went AWOL in their subsequent matches only to emerge later with an ultimatum to the club to pay him his salary arrears.
