Gor Mahia coach, Mark Harrison, has sounded the war drums ahead of next season, saying they will be targeting all the silverware and individual honours.
“Our objective for next season is to win everything that is in front of us,” said Harrison.
The tactician made the remarks as club assistant captain Philemon Otieno basked in the glory of bagging the Betsafe player of the month award for August.
Harrison extolled the defender and complimented the fans for exhibiting a meticulous interest in the performance of individual players.
“It really shows that the vice-captain has stepped up to the plate, but at the end of the day, it can’t be done without support from the rest of the team and the technical bench. It’s great that the fans take such a keen interest and vote for the Player of the Month,” said Harrison.
“The Player of the Month gives our players the motivation to give that extra 10 to 15 per cent every week to win the trophy,” said Harrison.
Otieno said he felt humbled to receive the award. “I am grateful to my teammates and our technical staff because this is not just my award, it belongs to the entire team.
“To all the fans who voted for me, I say a big thank you, and I hope we’ll continue getting your support next season,” said Otieno.
Otieno has featured prominently at the heart of Gor’s solid defence since his arrival from Ushuru FC in 2017.
But Otieno wasn't popping the champagne alone. Across the fence, arch-rivals AFC Leopards also joined their midfielder Brian Wanyama in celebration after he was named the club's Betsafe Player for the Month of August.
This was a big score for a lad who only linked up with the senior team in May 2021 after playing in the youth team since 2016.
“I’d like to thank God, my teammates, AFC technical bench and all the fans who voted for me. This award is for the whole team, and it motivates us to keep up the good performances next season which we’ll hopefully win,” said Wanyama.
AFC Leopards team manager, Tom Juma, congratulated his attacking midfielder for winning the award and expressed gratitude to Betsafe Kenya for the Player of the Month initiative.
“The award motivates our players to work hard every month. All the players are putting in the effort to win the award as well. We look forward to having a better 2021-2022 season and finish higher than fourth on the standings,” said Juma.
