Rush for Kenya Open slots as 2021/22 Safari Tour dates announced

In the coast region, Nyali Golf Club event will take place from October 16-20 followed by Leisure Lodge (October 23- 27).

In Summary

•The series, traditionally used to select African players for the Kenya Open, will start at Sigona Golf Club between September 25-29 and culminate at Muthaiga from February 12-16. 

•Limuru Country Club round will take place on January 22- 26, preceding Karen Country Club event on February 5-9.

The rush for the 2022 Kenya Open qualification slots begins this month following the announcement of the 2021/22 Safari Tour Calendar.

The series, traditionally used to select African players for the Kenya Open, will start at Sigona Golf Club between September 25-29 and culminate at Muthaiga from February 12-16. 

This season welcomes Leisure Lodge into the series that will feature five events in 2021 and three next year.

In the coast region, Nyali Golf Club event will take place from October 16-20 followed by Leisure Lodge (October 23- 27).

Limuru Country Club round will take place on January 22- 26, preceding Karen Country Club event on February 5-9.

The 2021 Kenya Open was won by Justin Harding of South Africa who produced a flawless final round of five-under-par 66 at Karen to seal a two-shot victory over Kurt Kitayama and his second European Tour title.

The 2020 Kenya Open was cancelled due to the global outbreak of the novel coronavirus and for intents and purposes KOGL started a new season with qualifying scores.

Through the new system, they considered 10 percent of 2018/2019 scores, 20 percent of the 2019/2020 and 70 percent of 2020/2021 scores for last year’s qualification where the likes of John Wangai, Greg Snow and Dismas Indiza made the Kenya team.

The Safari Tour is already gaining traction as the regional tour following last season’s event, where players from Africa also savoured qualification slots. 

The event attracted members from several countries in Africa. The Safari Tour has been used to Improve the quality of golf played by Kenyan professional golfers.
