Kenyan champions, Gor Mahia, have finally received their Betway Cup winners prize money after a week characterised by endless drama.

This comes exactly five days after Gor snubbed their league encounter against arch-rivals AFC Leopards at Thika Stadium last Saturday.

Secretary-General Sam Ocholla received the Sh 2 Million stashed in a brown envelope from FKF General Secretary / CEO Barry Otieno at a low-key ceremony held at Kandanda House.

Otieno said Leopards had not been invited alongside Gor because they were yet to provide their bank details as instructed by FKF in a letter written earlier.

He, however, said all the top four finishers in the tournament would ultimately have their dues settled soon.

Meanwhile, Gor treasurer Dolphine Odhiambo has confirmed the club received Sh2 million from their shirt sponsors Betsafe.

“We used the amount to settle dues including the pending salaries owed to players and the technical staff,” said Dolphine.

“The players received half of their monthly salaries while members of the technical bench received a quarter of the amount owed to them,” she added.

“We also secured accommodation for our new head coach, Mark Harrison, who arrived in the country only recently,” said Dolphine.

Harrison, who once turned out for English premiership club, Southampton, as a goalkeeper arrived on Saturday to succeed Portuguese Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto, who left the club in July after guiding the club to the Betway Cup title.

Sources said supporters of the club have planned to hold demonstrations against FKF along Tom Mboya Street in the morning.

“The peaceful protests are on and FKF’s move to offset the debt doesn't interfere with our plans. We shall still meet at Tom Mboya as had been planned," said the source.
