Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League side Tusker FC have named former player George Maina as the new assistant coach.

Maina takes over from Charles Okere who assumed his new role as Harambee Starlets' head coach a month ago.

“Following the appointment of Charles Okere by the FKF as the new  Starlets head coach, the club has moved to appoint a new assistant coach who will fill his void,” read a statement on the team's official website.

“Maina’s appointment commences with immediate effect.”

Prior to his appointment, Maina was head coach at National Division One side, Naivas. Maina said he was glad to return to the side he previously served zealously both as a player and assistant coach.

“Tusker is like home to me because I have been here for many years as a player and as a coach. I am glad to be back.

“When coach Matano asked whether I could come work with him, I couldn’t say no. I have worked with him before;  he has coached me as a player and he is a person I hugely respect,” said Maina.

Matano confirmed he actually approached Maina to consider taking up the role following Okere's departure

“We have worked together for a long time and when the opportunity arose to have him back, I did not hesitate to ask him whether he could come. We continue the work and hopefully we win more trophies together,” said Matano

Tusker chairman Daniel Aduda while welcoming Maina back to the club, wished Okere well in his future endeavours.
