Tanzanian showboating pugilist Karim ‘Mtu Kazi’ Mandonga is back in the country with a firm resolve to annihilate his Kenyan nemesis Daniel Wanyonyi once and for all.

The two sworn rivals will be ripping each other apart in the eagerly-awaited non-title fight at the Sarit Expo Centre in Westlands, Nairobi on July 22.

After devouring his Kenyan opponent in Nairobi with his famous “Sugunyo” jabs purportedly from Ukraine, Mandonga has now promised to deploy a new set of crafted missiles christened “Kikuki” from Russia in their next slug-off.

“I’m back in the country to confirm my title as East Africa’s finest and greatest boxer. I left Wanyonyi with a damaged face in our last fight and I’ve returned to bury him alive once and for all,” Mandonga said. “I don’t care what he says. I’ll destroy him whether he likes it or not,” Mandonga added.

In his response, Wanyonyi, a former African Boxing Union (ABU) light-heavily champion vowed to use the bout to redeem his battered image, promising a riveting display of skills in the ten-round bout.

“If he thinks he will have a walk in the park like he did in our last fight then he’s in for a shock of his lifetime. This time around he will not survive past the first round,” Wanyonyi said.

“Last time, he found me rusty because the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country denied me an opportunity to train for our fight. Things are quite different now and I have rediscovered my actual form. He will be facing a ferocious beast,” Wanyonyi added.

Wanyonyi, 39, unexpectedly lost to Mandonga through TKO in the fifth round of their vicious bout at the Kenyatta International Sports Centre (KICC) in Nairobi on January 14.

The Kenyan heads into the fight high on confidence following his latest fight where he floored Charles Kakande of Uganda on TKO at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on March 25. But he faces an obstinate and cocky opponent who equally slaughtered Lucky Yamuzi of Uganda at the same venue on the same day.

Wanyonyi said he has been sharpening his talons at the Pal Pal Gym under the tutelage of seasoned trainer Julius Odhiambo.

Before the crucial fight, Odhiambo exuded confidence, claiming that Wanyonyi has gathered enough weapons to easily dispatch Mandonga. “He is prepared for combat. We have put time into training, and I am convinced that this time, we will win,” he remarked.

Fight promoter Maurice Odera of Ultra Fight Series Promotions has promised a lifetime experience that will keep spectators on the edge of their seats in the 3,000-seat arena. “We are out to give fans a thrilling show, the boxers will be well paid in the fights,” Odera said.

Reuben Ndolo, president of the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission, announced that there will be transportation for spectators from the city to Westlands. Ndolo said that sufficient safeguards had been put in place to guarantee that all of the boxers would receive their payout as promised.
