Strathmore University Swords slashed Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology to size with a 57-47 win in a Kenya National Basketball League at the Strathmore Sports Complex.

The winners had a 30-16 lead at the break but were out-scored 19-9 in the third quarter as Jkuat caused multiple problems on good runs and shots.

“We had a lot of defensive lapses which made the game difficult. Jkuat played well,” noted Swords coach Ronny Owino.

“My team has a lot of injuries forcing me to use only one post player. But we need to play better. Nevertheless, I will take the win.”

Consolata Atieno led Swords with 17 points while Joyce Otiende notched 12. Gifty Kerubo and Joy Mueni each had 13 for the Juja side.

TH3 Swish hammered winless Kenyatta University Oryx 57-28 as Carol Koranga registered 15 points and Lavender Opondo added 12.

KU had a good fight in the first half, trailing 22-19.

“We were more aggressive in the last half, executed and ran our plays well,” said coach Ariel Koranga.

“It's the first time we did well on our plays, which is very encouraging. We are in the playoffs in our first attempt, which is good.”

Hosts Strathmore Blades whipped Africa Nazarene University (ANU) 64-53 as Koja Aduol buried 14 points.

“We did a good job defensively. We forced turnovers but we still struggled against their zone defence. We will continue working on it until we get it right,” said KPA coach Cliff Owuor.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology Lynx had 14 points from Jemimah Asiko in their 40-29 defeat to Storms. Strathmore University defeated Neosasa 62-39 in a Lower Division clash.
