Kenyatta University teams' poor run persisted as they posted losses in the Kenya National Basketball League in Eldoret on Sunday.

KU Pirates went down 70-60 to Platinum Eldonets in a men's Premier League tie.

The losers took a close 34-32 margin at the break. A strong 25-13 push by Eldonets in the third quarter disoriented the campus lads who battled to tie the duel 13-13.

Meshack Oloo drained 17 points and James Omondi added 11. KU's Trevor Opiyo led all scorers with 20 points but it was too little, too late.

"The men played extremely well and we gave our opponents a run for their money," said KU coach Caleb Osewe. "We did badly in the third quarter as we made some bad fouls alongside turnovers and this cost us heavily. We will be back soon," he noted.

The ladies' tie saw Eldonets humiliate KU Oryx 67-36 after racing away to a 20-point advantage to lead 36-16.

"This outing has made the girls step up. I still believe if we put a little more effort, we will achieve our set target," he said.

Sylvia Masese and Sheila Cherotich led a strong Eldonet charge with 21 and 17 points respectively.

In their previous match in Nakuru, home girls TH3 Swish walloped Oryx 72-50 after leading by a close 24-17 margin at the breather.

"The girls played well and that is a clear indication that the team is growing. They went down fighting," he said

In the the lower division, Rose Mshila's  Clique Mambas had a fruitful weekend winning their two matches.
