Morans finish sixth at FIBA AfroCan championship in Angola

Kenya Morans finished their FIBA AfroCan campaign in the sixth place after losing their clasiffication clash against Tunisia 67-59 at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda arena in Angola on Saturday.

Kenya, who pipped Nigeria 61-59 on Friday to set up a date with the North Africans, trailed 13-14 in the first half.

They picked up in the second 13-8 even as Kenya led 28-22 at the break.

In the third  quarter, Tunisia roared to a 25-13 advantage but the two sides tied in the last quarter 20-20.

Derrick Ongechi led Kenya with 12 points while Bramwell Mwombe registered 11 and pulled down 11 rebounds. Jawhar Jawadi grabbed the winners 12.

Kenya, who bagged the silver medal in the 2019 championship in Bamako, Mali in 2019, found it rough and finished 3-2 in the 12 team tournament.

Morans started off with a 62-52 victory over Cote d'Ivoire, lost 65-62 and 55-46 to Morocco in the quarter finals before beating Nigeria 61-59.

Other quarter finals  results saw Denocratic Repiblic of Congo nip Nigeria 74-72, Angola lost 73-63 to Rwanda while Tunisia also went down 69-66 to Ivory Coast.

Morocco will meet Ivory Coast in the finals Sunday after dethroning DR Congo 76-69 while Ivory Coast pipped Rwanda 74-71 in the other game.
