After bagging the National Super League title, Shabana FC have now turned their focus on the Kenyan Premier League.
The Glamour Boys bagged the title after a dominant 2-0 win over Kisumu All Stars on Saturday at Gusii Stadium while their rivals Murang’a Seal played to a 2-2 draw with Gusii FC.
Shabana finished top of the table with 73 points while Murang’a Seal came second with 69 points. Migori Youth sealed a Football Kenya Federation promotion/relegation playoff slot after finishing third.
On Sunday, Shabana coach Sammy Okothsaid he is now focusing on bolstering his squad ahead of the KPL, which runs between August 26 and May next year.
“We don’t want to overhaul the team. These players, who helped the team qualify for KPL. deserve a chance to play in the top-flight league. However, there are areas we need to improve since KPL is very competitive,” said Okoth.
Okoth added: “The celebrations are over. The tough task begins now. I will sit down with the management to draw up the plan for next season. We want to have a good run in the KPL. We don’t want to disappoint our loyal fans.”
Murang’a Seal coach Vincent Nyaberi said he is content with the second-place finish.
“I’m okay with the second place since our main target was to qualify for the Kenyan Premier League,” he said on phone.
He also revealed that he will strengthen the team.
“I have already identified five experienced players whom we want to sign. The negotiations are going on and I will give details once we are done,” said Nyaberi.
The transfer window opened on June 26 and will close on August 21.
Nyaberi said his main target next season will be to maintain their KPL status.
Meanwhile, the two-legged promotion/relegation playoff, between Migori and Wazito, will be played on July 12 and July 14.
