Team Kenya will be fielding a freestyle mixed relay team at the World Swimming Championships, which get underway on July 24 in Singapore.

Kenya Aquatics (KA) technical director, Omar Omari,  will coach the team, consisting of Poland-based Sara Mose, United States-based Imara Bella Thorpe,  Haniel Kudwoli,  and Stephen Ndegwa.

Omari said they are looking to qualify for the final. “ This being a mixed event, we stand a good chance of getting to the final and being competitive,” said Omari.

The quartet swum at last year's World Championships in Budapest, held in December, posting mixed results.

This time, Omari is upbeat that they have learnt lessons from the performance. “The four were in Hungary, and we had positive takeaways from that championship, which will be implemented in this one,” said Omari.

Additionally, in 2011, Kenya's 4x100m freestyle team of David Dunford, Amar Shah, Jason Dunford, and Ramadhan Vyombo bagged bronze at the African Games in Maputo, Mozambique, where they clocked 3:58.11

Omari said the four swimmers are training with their respective clubs and putting the final touches with regard to their races.

“ I have spoken to the swimmers, and they seem to be in good shape. We have had conversations with their respective coaches, and it's a matter of putting the final touches with 11-12 days to the championship,” said Omari.

Mose, who has also featured at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago in 2023,  said continued exposure will benefit the team.

“The more we gain exposure, the more we build confidence. With the support of the federation and coaches, the results will be positive," said Mose.

Elsewhere,  12 schools have confirmed participation for the Mount Kenya swimming Bloc Championship slated for  Saturday at Nyahururu Elite School.

Some of the swim clubs gracing the event include Robins Club, Nakuru Dolphins, Brokemount School, Mount Longonot School, Goldfish Ripples School, Melvine Jones, Happy Fish Club, Rware, Highland School, and Citam Schools Nakuru.
