The top two athletes in each event were picked to represent the region at the national inter-collegiate championships to be held at Machakos Teachers College on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Nyanza region KTCSA secretary Lucas Okinda said: "We picked the top three athletes in 5, 000m and 10, 000m events. We expect our athletes to go head-to-head with athletes from other regions, especially Rift Valley and Western,” said Okinda.

Team Nyanza will camp at Asumbi TTC before departing for the national showpiece.  The team is dominated by athletes from Asumbi.

The KTCSA Nyanza region chairman Timothy Atuti said athletics will next year revert to Term One in line with the Athletics Kenya calendar.

Atuti challenged the selected athletes to lift the Nyanza flag high during the nationals. He also hailed them for their discipline during the two day track and field event.

“We are now one team. Go out there and challenge for the national title. Use these two days to sharpen your skills before the national championships,” added Atuti.
