Equity Bank Dumas must win their remaining matches to be well-placed ahead of the playoffs, captain Victor Bosire has said.

The bankers' skipper said they had rebounding issues in the first half of a 73-67 mid-week victory over Strathmore University Blades at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium.

“It was just rebounding. Strathmore are a young and athletic team and everyone is going for the rebounds. For every throw, they were rebounding,” Bosire noted.

“In the second half, we did a better job in terms of rebounding. I’ve played Strathmore over the years and they never stop running.”

He added, “They’ll keep fighting up to the end, that’s what they are known for. “

Bosire said they must now win their remaining games. The bankers have 27 points having lost six of their 17 games played so far.

“We have to win our remaining games. Now the chemistry is coming in the team and all we need to do is to build on that.”

Dumas bolted to an 18-14 first-quarter edge before the students rallied in the second, locking the scores 35-35 at the break.

After resumption, Dumas got their groove, sailing away 18-7 as blunt Blades struggled in the third. They battled to take the last quarter 25-20.

“It was a good game save for lack of awareness and bad decisions as well as not executing. I am happy we are progressing well,” said Blades coach Tony Ochieng. Joel Ntambwe lifted Equity with 17 points and Bosire added 11 off the bench. Jason Nwodo nailed 16 and Jack Waweru 22 ‘for Strath’.

In the women’s category, Strathmore University Swords thrashed the University of Nairobi Dynamites 61-27 after a 36-17 half-time cushion

The exiting Msimbi Lihanda was all over, igniting most sword offences with crisp passing. Joy Mupalia shot 21 points for the winners.

“We played well overall but still we need to work on finishing, decision making and defence. Our box out is also poor as well,” said Swords coach Ronny Owino

“It was not the best performance. We made many mistakes and Strathmore used their experience to punish us,” offered UoN coach Eugene Genga. “We didn’t rebound well and our offence wasn’t consistent. We had few good offences and many bad offences.”

He went on, “We got carried away, our spacing was bad and we didn’t score.”
