The Eldoret City Marathon is back on course after a year's absence and will now take place on April 21.

Race director Moses Tanui said the financial challenges they have been facing will now be a thing of the past.

“The challenges we have been facing have been resolved and we are back to run our marathon. I am pleased to announce the race is back on track,” said the two-time Boston marathon champion.

He also announced that registration started last month immediately after the launch and it is currently ongoing.

“The registration deadline is April 18. I believe this will give us time to organise and plan a start list. The Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) should have the list before the race."

Tanui urged athletes to pick their bib numbers in person on April 20— just a day before the race. "I insist they must come in person because we are operating under the World Athletics,” said Tanui.

Race patron Gladys Boss Shollei said that they have discussed with the Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum how to end the financial challenges.

“We have had several meetings with PS for Sports to see how we can sustain the race and avoid the past challenges. Going forward, we want this race to grow and as a resident of Uasin Gishu, I want this race to outlive us all,” said Boss.

She said as the City of Champions,  it is important to have their international race approved by World Athletics.

“The resumption of the race is therefore good news for the entire region and I want to urge athletes to register in huge numbers,” said Boss who also serves as the Uasin Gishu County Woman Representative.

At the same time, she appealed to well-wishers to adopt an athlete in support of the race scheduled for April 21."

Athletics Kenya, Uasin Gishu County chairman Joseph Boit said they are working round the clock to ensure the race is successful. He urged athletes to run clean and win easily.
