Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala is heading to Europe this week for two races as preparations for the World Championships gather pace.
The African record holder announced he will be competing at the Meeting Herculis EBS at Fontevieilli in Monaco on Friday before heading to the Joskolauf meeting in Austria on July 29.
“Here is my calendar for the last part of season 2023. If you have been praying for my calendars this is the calendar we need to pray for the most because these races will carry so much weight and history after that finish line,” Omanyala said on his social media accounts.
While revealing everything he is doing now is geared towards the world championships, set for Budapest in August, Omanyala added: “My next race will be at the Monaco Diamond League this Friday. Thereafter, I plan to do some light training as I prepare for the World Championships in Budapest.”
“I will also compete in the Xiamen Diamond League in China on September 3 ahead of the Diamond League finals in Oregon, USA on September 15.”
Omanyala, who is third in this season’s Diamond League standings, is full of confidence heading for the two races as well as the World Championships after three impressive shows in Rabat, Florence and Paris.
Omanyala insists he still has the stamina to scale to the top of the world amid concerns of fatigue after a busy European tour at the Diamond League series.
“The most crucial thing is to keep working on my fitness levels. My role is to simply show up and perform since my coach and management are experts in their fields and, as such, they know what is best for me,” Omanyala said.
“I visited five different zones in a single month, and yeah, I was a little worn out, but I have ensured I got the much-needed bed rest before my next event.”
He said nothing is going to pull him back as he chases history in Budapest.
“My fans have every reason to expect a good show in Budapest. My form in the last three Diamond League meetings speaks volumes about my potential,” Omanyala said.
“We shall be heading to Budapest to write a new chapter in history and to make Kenya and Africa believe that everything is possible.”
He heads to Monaco high on confidence, buoyed by his recent performances at the national trials in Nairobi where he ran 9.96 seconds to retain his Kenyan title.
