Fresh from winning the second edition of Iten 15km Road race, former Africa Cross Country bronze medalist Charles Mneira will look to score a hattrick of 10,000m titles at the Kenya Prisons Service Championships at Moi Stadium, Kasarani on Saturday.
The Africa Beach Half Marathon silver medalist won the event in 2021 and 2022.
He will seek to use the event to gauge his preparedness as he looks to represent the country at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest between August 19 and 27.
“I will be starting my track competitions at the Kenya Prisons’ track and field, trying to ensure that I cut the team for the national trials ahead of the World Championships. Saturday's championships will be very competitive but I am well prepared,” said Yosei.
He won last year's event in 28:56.4 ahead of Geoffrey Korir of Nairobi (28:56.8) and Wilfred Kimitei (29:08.8).
Ultimately, Yosei's goal is to deliver the world 10,000m title come August.
“It has been my dream to represent the country at the World Championships. I am in top form this year and I will do my best to make it to Budapest. I want to bring home the title, if not, a medal will still be welcome,” said Yosei.
Meanwhile, former World Under 20 silver medalist Boaz Kiprugut will seek to defend the 1,500m title he won last year.
Kiprugut, of Prisons Staff Training College, clocked 3:43.9 to beat Shadrack Ngumbau and World Under-20 1,500m champion Vincent Keter to second and third places in respective times of 3:44.5 and 3:45.2.
