Mutunga, Chelangát through to 400m semi-finals

The women’s 400m semi-finals are set for Thursday 1:00 a.m. while the men’s race will follow closely at 1:25 a.m.

In Summary

• Mutunga ran a personal best of 52.60 in Heat 2 to place second in a race won by India’s Rupa in 52.50.

• In the men’s 400m, Elkanah Chemelili timed 46.69 to place fourth in Heat 2 to sail to semi-finals.

Damaris Mutunga and Sylvia Chelangát sailed to 400m semi-finals after finishing second in their respective heats.

Mutunga ran a personal best of 52.60 in Heat 2 to place second in a race won by India’s Rupa in 52.50. Nigeria’s Osaretin Usenbor clocked 53.80 to finish third.

Chelangát Clocked 53.99 secs to place second in Heat 4 won by Jamaica’s Dejanea Oakley in 53.70 secs.

Nigeria’s Queen Osunobun settled for the third position in 54.32. In the men’s 400m, Elkanah Chemelili timed 46.69 to place fourth in Heat 2 to sail to semi-finals.

 South Africa’s Lythe Pillay won the race in 46.02 ahead of Bahrain’s Yusuf Abbas (46.21) and Jamaica’s Delano Kennedy (46.24) who placed  second and third respectively. The women’s 400m semi-finals are set for Thursday 1:00 a.m. while the men’s follow closely at 1:25 a.m.
