Action between MOFA and Gucha Stars at Gusii Stadium/ANGWENYI GICHANAMOFA (Michael Olunga Foundation Academy) are gearing up for a stern examination on Sunday when they face National Super League leaders Migori Youth at Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
Migori Youth opened a five-point gap at the top of the table after edging promotion-chasing Fortune Sacco 1-0 on Thursday at Awendo Green Stadium, moving to 26 points thanks to a Fredrick Ologi strike.
Second-placed 3K FC kept their promotion push alive with a 2-0 victory over Kibera Black Stars to rise to 21 points, while MOFA remain third on 19 points, level with fourth-placed Mombasa United.
MOFA coach Charles Warinda says his side is fully prepared for the high-stakes clash against the table-toppers.
“It’s a Nyanza region derby. Our focus remains on maximum points. It will be a difficult game, but all teams in the league are tough,” said Warinda, whose team edged Gucha Stars 3-2 at Gusii Stadium on Wednesday.
Elsewhere, Gucha Stars coach Sammy Okoth is looking forward to their encounter with an in-form Luanda Villa, who have won two matches in a row, including a 1-0 win over bottom-placed Mwatate United on Wednesday. Gucha Stars’ inconsistency continued with their 3-2 defeat to MOFA midweek.
“It has been a difficult week, but we shall keep pushing. We are playing away, and we know what is expected from us,” said Okoth, adding that he hopes all players involved in a minor accident on Wednesday will be fit for the match at Mumboha grounds in Vihiga County.
Second-placed 3K travel to Nairobi to face Equity Bank, while Mombasa United host Talanta FC at the KPA Sports Club.
Relegation strugglers Kabati Youth and Kisumu All Stars meet at Thika Stadium, both having managed just one win in 11 outings.
Naivas FC host Nzoia Sugar at KIHBT grounds in Ngong, as Fortune Sacco welcome newcomers Soy United at Kianyaga grounds.
Bottom-placed Mwatate United face Kibera Black Stars as new coach Evans Mafuta seeks his first win since taking over.
Mully Children’s Family (MCF) will host Nairobi City Stars at the MCF Complex in Ndalani, Machakos County.
