The Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) coach, Charles Warinda, says his charges displayed character after coming from behind twice to beat the hosts, Gucha Stars, 3-2 at Gusii Stadium.

“We won the game due to our mental strength, which is something we have been working on. The boys fought until the last minute and got a winner at the death,” said the coach.

He, however, rued two mistakes which led to Gucha’s two goals. “I’m not happy with the two goals we conceded. The goals came from situations we have been working on. However, the substitutions we made in the second half turned the game around. The games in the second-tier league are tough,” he remarked.

Coach Warinda wished five Gucha Stars players a quick recovery after they were involved in an accident hours before the game.

“For the coach to motivate the players and to get to the field and play is more than being a coach. It’s part of our job, though,” he added. Following their win, MOFA moved to third on the log with 18 points from 11 games.

Gucha Stars coach Sammy Okoth said they didn’t want the game postponed despite the accident. “We already have two games at hand. We didn’t want another game postponed. The players suffered minor injuries, and two who were in the starting lineup did not play. We had to change them while others played,” said Okoth.

Reflecting on the game, Okoth said fatigue contributed to the loss. “It was our third game in six days. The boys gave their all but cracked towards the end of the game. I can’t blame them,” added the former Shabana coach.

At Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Equity Bank held hosts Kisumu All Stars to a 1-1 draw while Nzoia Sugar and Michael Olunga Foundation played to a barren draw in an ill-tempered game.

Talanta FC compounded Kabati Youth’s woes after edging the newbies 2-0, thanks to Brian Lusamukha and Robert Mutie strikes for the former FKF Premier League side.

Luanda Villa continued with their impressive run after a 1-0 win over bottom-of-the-table Mwatate United, while Soy United and Vihiga United battled to a barren draw at Eldoret Showground. Darajani Gogo returned to winning ways after a narrow 1-0 over Naivas FC. Edmund Bala scored the all-important goal for Andrew Ongwae’s charges. Darajani Gogo moved to fifth on the log with 17 points.
