Gucha Stars players celebrate Vincent Nyabuto’s goal against Kisumu All Stars on Thursday at Gusii Stadium/ANGWENYI GICHANA

Gucha Stars coach Sammy Okoth targets a top-10 finish on their National Super League debut season.

Okoth is happy with how the team has performed seven games into the second-tier competition.

The newly promoted side has won three games, drawn one and lost three to sit 14th on the log.

Speaking after their 2-0 win over struggling Kisumu All Stars at Gusii Stadium, Okoth said: “The players are gaining confidence in every game they are playing. Winning against Kisumu All Stars was not easy because they are an experienced team.”

He hailed two-goal hero Vincent Nyabuto and tipped him to become the league’s top scorer.

“He is an experienced lad and he will play a crucial role in our debut season in the NSL. He also has a point to prove since he played in the KPL with Shabana before he was released,” added Okoth.

They have now shifted their focus to Sunday’s game against Mwatate United.

“We want to continue with our winning momentum against Mwatate on Sunday. Our target is to pick maximum points at home,” added the experienced tactician.

At the same time, three games are lined up for Saturday. Newcomers Equity Bank host Mully Children’s Family (MCF) at Vapor Grounds, Ngong’, while the Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) host second-placed Mombasa United at Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

Former Premier League clubs Nairobi City Stars and Nzoia Sugar will tussle it out at Vapor Grounds.

On Sunday, Migori Youth will be out to extend their lead at the top of the log when they face Darajani Gogo at Marist University in Karen.

Darajani Gogo coach Andrew Ongwae expects a tough duel.

“We are going for maximum points against Migori Youth. This week, we played two games and won both. We want to conclude with another win to move into the top three,” said Ongwae.

Third-placed 3K FC travel to Eldoret to face wounded Soy United. United will seek to bounce back to winning ways after losing two games in a row.

Luanda Villa invite Naivas at Mumboha Grounds, while Vihiga United and Fortune Sacco face off at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.

Kabati Youth will seek their first win in nine games when they entertain Kibera Black Stars at Thika Stadium. Kabati are the only team yet to win a game this season.
